UNCTAD in cooperation with the WAEMU Commission is organizing a Regional Workshop on Electronic Commerce to contribute to the development of recommendations in support of the Ministerial Declaration of 29 September 2017, in which the Ministers in charge of Trade WAEMU member States recognized the strategic importance of e-commerce and trade in services to the Union economy and recommended the implementation of a regional work plan. UNCTAD Deputy Secretary-General Isabelle Durant, Ms. Fily Bouare Sissoko, Commissioner, Department of Enterprise, Mines, Energy, and Digital Economy Development of the WAEMU Commission and HE Harouna Kabore, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, Burkina Faso, will share their vision during the opening ceremony.
The workshop will launch the three rapid e-business readiness assessments in Burkina Faso, Senegal and Togo.
The workshop will provide participants with an overview of global and regional trends in e-commerce, highlighting the efforts of EU countries in seven key policy areas.
It will benefit from the participation of several eTrade for all partners such as the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the International Trade Center (ITC), the World Bank, ACSIS, the WTO, ECA, the African Development Bank (ADB).
